DR. MARTIN L. KING, JR. ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
COOK POSITION
Duties include but are not limited to:
Under supervision of School Lunch Manager, performs skilled cooking in the large
production of meals, and responsible for the complete preparation of the meals in a school cafeteria.
Supervise small group of kitchen workers in a manner conducive the full performance and high
moral; Supervise the Assistant Cook and Food Service Worker classes. Ability to follow and transmit oral and written instruction.
Assists in the preparation of meals including breakfast and lunch: makes coffee; supervises the serving of breakfast; roasts meats; mixes salads; makes soups & gravies; prepares vegetables & puddings.
Supervises the collection of money; maintains daily inventory of supplies; Takes monthly inventory of supplies and requisitions new supplies when necessary; supervises employees in the cleaning of kitchen and dining area and utensils. Ability to work long hours while standing, under conditions of high
temperatures; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. Performs other
duties as directed.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma, prior food service experience, Food Manager’s Certificate: Suffolk County or ServSafe, and the ability to work evening hours with rotating/flexible hours.

Hours: 6:00am to 2:00pm
Salary: Per UPSEU Contract
